Salesforce is the largest SaaS/PaaS cloud computing company by customer count and revenue. Its global system executes close to 4B transactions per day, at 200ms per transaction, on behalf of more than 150,000 companies. Come and learn how the Salesforce engineering team built this massive scale system from ground up. After an overview, this talk will focus on the meta data driven multi-tenant architecture that is the core of the system.

Alex Hu is a Senior Vice President of Engineering at Salesforce. He leads a globally distributed team of technologists responsible for delivering innovative products for Salesforce Service Cloud and Salesforce Industries.

Alex joined Salesforce in the spring of 2000 as its 5th engineer, with the mission to build easy-to-use SaaS products for business. Over his tenure, Alex held multiple leadership roles including head of engineering for Salesforce Sales Cloud, Salesforce Data.com, and helped grow Salesforce from a startup with no revenue to the 4th largest enterprise software company in the world with 6+B annual revenue.

Prior to Salesforce, Alex held various positions at iSearch, Compuware, and United Healthcare, focusing on SaaS and database applications. Alex holds a Masters in Computer Science from University of Minnesota Twin Cities and a Bachelors in Computer Science from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
