Dr. Athanasios Nikolakopoulos, a Research Associate of DTC, won the Best Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on Big Knowledge (IEEE ICBK’17), Hefei, China, Aug.7-9, 2017. The award-winning paper entitled “Factored Proximity Models for Top-N Recommendations,” is co-authored by Athanasios N. Nikolakopoulos, Vassilis Kalantzis as well as Professors Efstratios Gallopoulos and John Garofalakis from the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, University of Patras, Greece.

The IEEE International Conference on Big Knowledge (ICBK) provides a premier international forum for presentation of original research results in Big Knowledge. The conference covers all aspects of Big Knowledge, including algorithms, software, systems, and it draws researchers from a wide range areas such as statistics, machine learning, pattern recognition, knowledge visualization, expert systems, high performance computing, World Wide Web, and big data analytics. This year the conference had a very low acceptance rate, and the best paper was awarded by an expert committee chaired by the esteemed IEEE Fellow, Prof. Xindong Wu.
