Deformable Mapping in Clinical Visualization Software

AtevThe talk will show how deformable mapping between objects can be used to enhance advanced clinical applications. I will show a visualization of a colon surface using a virtual dissection and discuss some of the algorithm details. Then, I will discuss a method for 3D non-rigid registration that ensures a diffeomorphic mapping, and will discuss how concerns about the parallel implementation of the algorithm on multi-core systems influenced some of the design decisions. Both applications are relevant to the work of radiologists and oncologists in diagnosing colorectal cancer and assessing tumors of the liver and lungs.

 

Stefan Atev is a senior algorithm development scientist at Vital Images, where he develops methods for rapidly processing 3D medical image data. Stefan holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota and has been with Vital Images for 4 years.
