Stergios Roumeliotis

FROM: Vipin Kumar, Head of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Minnesota

Dear all,

It is my great pleasure to share with you this wonderful news.

Stergios Roumeliotis has been selected to receive a PECASE award. As we all know, this is a highly selective honor bestowed upon young faculty in science and engineering. NSF selects only about 20 candidates nationwide each year in the entire field of science and engineering, and there are only about 30 or so NSF PECASE awardees in computer science and engineering since the program started in 1996.

We are very proud to have three of our young faculty win this exclusive award (the two other PECASE winners are Interrante - 1999; Schuler - 2006). To the best of my knowledge, our department has the distinction of having the largest number of our faculty selected for this award amongst all computer science departments nation-wide.

Stergios will receive this award from President Bush in an award ceremony to be held at the White House on December 19.

Congratulations Stergios! We are proud of you and your accomplishments.
