The University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute seeks to hire a person with a programming background to join a dynamic group that provides a high-level support for researchers in scientific computation. This is a two-year appointment to work on a sponsored project in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic. The Supercomputing Institute has multiple high-performance computing systems, including a new IBM BladeCenter with 1180 cores, an IBM Power4 system with 344 processors, an SGI Altix with 436 processors, a Linux Cluster with 156 processors, and a 2048-core SGI Altix XE arriving in July.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in software design and programming of novel tools for researchers
    • Provide input for high-level design of software
    • Program individual components, classes, or subroutines

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in C.S. and 1 year of experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Java, Perl, and UNIX Shells
  • Proficient with ant or make, and CVS or SVN
  • Proficient with Eclipse or other development software for UNIX/Linux
  • Proficient with HTML, XML, Javadoc, and UML
  • Proficient with development in UNIX/Linux
  • Experience with biological data
  • Experience with caGRID, Globus, HIPPA, or HL7 a plus
  • Must be able to begin employment within six weeks of offer.
