Computational Proteomics Consultant

The University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute seeks to hire a Computational Proteomics Consultant to join a dynamic group that provides a high level of technical support for researchers at the University of Minnesota Supercomputing Institute.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a successful program that provides technical support to a broad range of development efforts and applications in computational biology.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biophysics, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to learn, support, and manage a wide variety of application software packages.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Proteomics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mass spectrometry techniques and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and graduate student researchers.
  • Experience with public and home-grown proteomics-related databases.
  • Must be able to contribute to a strong user support program in proteomics.
  • Strong computational experience.
  • Experience with Perl, Python, or similar language.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to begin employment within six weeks of offer.

Duties/Responsibilities

Work as an enthusiastic, proactive team member of a dynamic group in the area of biological computation, with a particular focus on proteomics and protein science. Consult with researchers and interact with users on a one-on-one basis to aid in effective resolution of proteomics-related problems. Respond to user questions and problems. Create and present tutorials and documents to provide proteomics-related information to the research community. Provide expertise with strategic planning and evaluation of hardware and software.
