Data Mining Reception
Highlights U of M Cutting-Edge Data Mining Projects
Over 200 researchers and members of industry from around North
America attended the University of Minnesota Digital Technology
Center's Data Mining Consortium's April 27 poster session and
reception that was held in Minneapolis in conjunction with the
SIAM 2007 Data Mining Conference. The event provided an
introduction to the University's Data Mining Consortium (DDMC)
and featured twenty-one poster presentations on applications of
data mining to health care, fraud and security, customer
relations management (CRM), Web 2.0, and analytics.
A panel of judges drawn from academia and industry awarded
prizes to the four best posters. Those receiving prizes
were:
1st place: "Social Network
Analysis"

2nd place: "Gray's Anatomy:
Dissecting Scanning Activities Using IP Gray Space Analysis"
Zhi-Li Zhang (CSE), Yi Jin (CSE)
3rd place: "Improving Chronic
Disease Care: D Mining in Sparse and Synthetic Environments"
Paul Johnson (IDS-Carlson School),
Gedas Admovicius (IDS-Carlson School), Ryan McCabe (IDS-Carlson
School), Emily Rund (IDS-Carlson School)
Honorable Mention: "Sructural
Bioinformatics"
