Too much data to analyze in a time efficient manner is a problem for both
researchers and practitioners. A decision support system (DSS) which can
perform automated analysis of the massive amounts of data would allow
algorithms to do much of the preprocessing and initial discovery in order
to point researchers in interesting directions. The tools need to present
a uniform, integrated view of the data which is easy to interpret. Providing
this capability will free medical researcher of much labor-intensive
analysis work and allowing the research effort to be spent on question
that enhance the understanding of disease and disease processes.
There have been several areas that have been proposed for which the decision
support system should help medical doctors.
- Early detection of disease (e.g. Liver Cirrhosis)
- Prediction of biopsy results given a set of test results
- Indicate statistic confidence in predictions
- Avoid unnecessary costs and tests
