Computer tools for gene and QTL mapping analysis: Data analysis is a critical step to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting health and production traits in agricultural species.

Data analysis is a critical step to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting health and production traits in agricultural species. Complex inheritance modes of QTL such as imprinting, sex-influenced and gene interaction could be present and could be a factor responsible for the limited success of QTL mapping (or complex trait gene mapping) in humans. This project has two objectives. The first objective is to develop a computer package that implements new statistical methods of data analysis for QTL mapping with complex inheritance modes developed by the PI’s group and selected methods in the literature. The second objective is to develop graphical user interfaces integrating this program and two programs previously developed for linkage analysis and pedigree graphical visualization as a final step in developing a commercial quality research/development/application tool. All three computing tools will facilitate the education and research in gene and QTL mapping, and will enhance communication and collaboration between academia and industry.
